Brussels, December 3, 2009

Aspect held its 5th Anniversary Party in Brussels on December 3. The theme for the event was evolution. This was partly in recognition that 200 years have passed since Charles Darwin's birth and its 150 years since "On the Origin of Species" was published. The theme was also chosen to emphasise the changing nature of the communications industry. With the fittest adapting and thriving, and the dinosaurs finding it increasingly difficult to survive!

Q1 results show a few silver linings - but they are very few indeed. Yes, some companies have managed to beat expectations. But most are still in recession's purgatory. Seeking to reassure investors, they by necessity emphasize their commitment to financial discipline and to continue restructuring efforts, their resolve to focus on their customers, and their efforts to improve efficiency and regain profitability.

Meanwhile, their employees are expected to make these commitments a reality.

Many communication teams are now getting deeper into change communications than they have ever been before. And the stakes are high. Companies are complex social entities; their performance the result of the choreographed efforts of thousands of employees from many different cultures.

Even in good times, keeping such a ship on course calls for uncommon leadership qualities. In today's stormy seas, the internal communicator becomes crucial to a company's success.

The strategies for survival and growth mapped out at the top must be bought into, and implemented by, a large, diverse and quite possibly scared team. Every situation is unique, every corporate culture different. But, as Aspect's change communication expert, Martin Light, writes below, there is an approach that can help you in these troubled times.

Aspect News – a different approach for today’s climate

Doing more with less. Focusing on the fundamentals. Operational efficiency. These are the drivers for 2009 as organisations adjust to the toughest business climate in a generation.

Communicators have to support these straightened business plans, and not just with bare bones outreach programmes. When the recession finally leaves us, businesses will need to be in a position to benefit. Delivering now while shaping the future is thus key. Fresh thinking and smarter ways of working, more than ever, will ensure success in a time of scarce resources.

That means partnering with agencies that think beyond the monthly retainer and take new realities into account. At Aspect, we see the current situation as an opportunity. Four years ago, we set up the agency because we knew there are better, more effective ways of communicating than the tired formulas promulgated by the big groups. Those who choose to work with us notice it straight away: we don't take retainers. We only charge on a project basis. You get value, focus and results. And we get your repeat business. Not because you're bound in a contract that forces you to, but because you want more of what we already did for you.

In this, our first newsletter, we thought we'd take the opportunity to talk about ourselves (our focus is usually on our clients' businesses).  We hope this short overview of the sheer range of projects we are currently working on will make you hungry to learn more about Aspect.

Brussels, Nov. 19, 2007

Aspect Consulting is proud to announce that it has been selected as agency of record by CEEREAL, the voice of the breakfast cereal and oat milling industries in Europe.  The account had been held for the past 8 years by Hill & Knowlton. Aspect won a 5-way pitch against Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, PLEON, GPlus and Porter Novelli. "Aspect understood our business very well, despite having little previous nutrition experience. It dug under the surface to understant the underlying dynamics of our industry. The vision they developed and the thoroughness of their plan convinced us. There was very little discussion; the decision of our selection committee was unanimuous", said Alexander Jess, CEEREAL's Secretary General.

The account will last for an initial period of 3 years and will seek to convince political decision-makers of the importance for public health, educational results and labour productivity of a daily, nutritious breakfast. Studies show that over 60% of Europeans regularly skip this essential meal.
